Turn what you watch into what you think

Stop dumping links into Notion. Clip it, add your take, and finish with a note you actually thought through — not a link you’ll never revisit.

More than note-taking

Capture ideas, reflect while you read and watch, and turn information into knowledge.

Capture ideas without losing your flow

Save highlights, screenshots, subtitles, and ideas without leaving the page. Stay focused on what you’re learning.

Write your take, not just theirs

Highlighting only saves someone else’s words. Add your own questions, objections, and connections — before the thought slips away.

Leave with a document, not a pile of clips

Your clips and takes get organized into a review doc — export to Word or Markdown when you’re done.

Share and make your insights visible

Turn highlights and personal insights into beautiful cards you can share — with your name and perspective attached.

FAQ

What is Jotato?

Jotato is a note-taking Chrome extension for YouTube and webpages that helps you capture ideas, add personal thoughts, and turn scattered notes into structured reviews.

How is Jotato different from a note-taking app like Notion?

Notion is where a note goes after you’ve decided it matters. Jotato works while you’re still reading or watching — it opens as a sidebar on the page itself, so clipping and thinking happen in the same place. You leave with a finished document instead of a link you meant to come back to.

Can I take notes from YouTube videos?

Yes. On a video page every clip carries its timestamp, and clicking it jumps the player back to that moment. You can also grab the current frame and pull the subtitle that is on screen at that instant.

Can I use Jotato for webpages and online articles?

Yes. Select any text on a page to clip it, capture the visible area as a screenshot, paste your own images, or just write a note from scratch.

Does Jotato use AI?

No — and that is the design, not a gap. Summarising is the one thing every LLM and AI tool already does well, and a summary someone else wrote is exactly the kind of note you never think about again. Jotato is built for people who actually want to watch the video and are willing to spend the minutes it takes to work out what they think. The thinking is the point, so Jotato does not do it for you.

Can I export my notes?

Yes. Export a record as a Word document or as Markdown, copy a note to your clipboard, or generate a share card for a single clip.

Where are my notes stored?

On your own device, in your browser’s local extension storage. Clips, screenshots, subtitles and everything you write stay there. Only interface preferences — panel position, capture mode, export format — use your browser’s own sync.

Is Jotato free?

Yes. Free to install and use, with no account and nothing to sign up for.

How do I install Jotato?
  1. Open the Chrome Web Store listing, click Add to Chrome, then confirm with Add extension. It takes a few seconds and needs no account.
  2. Pin it to your toolbar — Chrome hides new extensions behind the puzzle-piece icon. Click the puzzle piece, find Jotato in the list, then click the pin next to it.
  3. Click the Jotato icon on any page — or any YouTube video — to open the sidebar.

It works in Chrome and in other Chromium browsers such as Edge, Brave and Arc.

Take. Think. Jot.
